Obituary for Albert E. Booth, Jr.

Albert E. Booth, Jr.
Albert E. Booth, Jr.
Age 81, of Watkins Glen, passed away October 26, 2016. Born on 25 August 1935 in Lawrence, MA, as the only child of Albert Edmund Booth Sr., an Engineer, and Alice Booth (Marshall), a housewife. He grew up in Salem, NH, and on 11 June 1953, graduated from Woodbury High School in Salem, NH. After HS, he went on to the University of New Hampshire to study to be a Forest Ranger. He was restless and dropped out of college after a year and joined the Navy in 1954. He was sent to the Pacific and was pretty bored for a couple of years until he was selected as a Naval Cadet for class 3-57 Pilot Training at Pensacola, FL. He loved to fly, but had some minor sinus issues which grounded him from flying in the Navy, and he was discharged in 1958. He returned home to New Hampshire and started dating Joan De Salvo, also from Salem, NH, and a 1957 graduate of Woodbury High School. He continued to fly as his sinus condition was not serious enough to ground him as a civilian pilot. On May 10, 1960, he married Joan DeSalvo and they had two children; Douglas Booth, born on 10 March 1961 and Lynn Booth, born on 27 November 1962. He held various aviation career positions as a pilot and flight engineer mostly within the corporate jet arena and in the Gulfstream aircraft. His job took him around the world many times and he has visited over 100 countries. In addition, he accepted positions oversees in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and in Amsterdam, Netherlands, before coming back to the US and eventually settling in Watkins Glen and finishing his career last year as the head of Aircraft Maintenance with Airborne, Inc at Elmira Regional Airport. He loved the outdoors as much as he loved flying and took every opportunity he could to be outdoors, either hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, or skiing. He owned a cabin with his cousin they called Whiskey Jack located at the very top of New Hampshire where it meets Canada and looked forward to these trips every year. He and his cousin also took an annual pilgrimage to Labrador Canada to commune with nature until health problems dictated they both stay home. In addition, he was a huge animal lover and has given a great home to many animals in need. Private services will be held at a later date.
