Obituary

Norvelle “Bud” George VanWormer

Age 88, formerly of Burdett, NY, passed away Feb. 14, 2020.

Bud was born on February 26, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio to Henrietta (Pearson) VanWormer and George VanWormer

He married Violet Lorraine Usher on July 29, 1950. They raised six sons and one daughter, Larry, Ronnie, David, Glen, Clinton, Dale and Nancy.

Bud became a respected welder, and his career took him to the west coast where he would spend ten years of his life in California as an Iron worker. In 1965, he would return to New York and the beautiful scenery he so dearly missed.

For many years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything to do with the outdoors.
He was known for his desire to help others, witty personality and strong work ethics.
Bud was preceded in death by four sons, Glen, David, Dale and Ronnie, his daughter-in-law Cheryl, and great-granddaughter Lilly.

He is survived by his wife Violet; sons, Larry and Clinton (Laurie); and daughter Nancy (Bill); 21 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 29, 2020 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2590 State Route 414, Watkins Glen, NY at 1:00pm.

In Bud's younger years, he worked for years on the farm on Rumsey Rd., Trumansburg, NY with my father, Don Cretser. I was just a toddler when he joined us, and I remember lots of laughter and storytelling. Bud was a hard worker, always enthusiastic about what he was doing with "git 'er done" attitude. He enjoyed all the practical jokes and antics that went on while working. When they were building an addition to the shop, they had a lot of nails to drive, so my father went off to get a bigger hammer; Bud came back with a sledgehammer. I remember Bud doing headstands in the most unlikely places, once on top of a silo. When he left us to go to work with Shepherd-Niles in Watkins Glen, I remember he got in trouble for getting his work done too quickly. He was just too ambitious. He and Violet were a great couple, raising a big family and having fun all the way.

From a very small age I have dearly loved Uncle Bud and Aunt Violet, it started when my sister and I were flower girls at their wedding. I thought I was part of a fairy tale with the most handsome and most beautiful groom and bride ever. As for the wedding, do not remember much, because of the flowers I had an asthma, just can't recall. I have seen pictures though and still think they have always been beautiful and their children, my cousins followed in their footsteps. Love you all and my heart and prayers go out to you all
