Alta W. Jaynes
Age 92, formerly of Burdett, NY, passed away on January 12, 2016 with her loving husband at her side at Elcor, where she has resided for the past several years. She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, William E. Jaynes; son, Dale (Linda) Jaynes of Burdett; sister, Elna (Glen) Maphis of Paxton, IL; three grandchildren, Scott, Sean (Jonilyn) Jaynes, and Kristina (Allan) Burke; four great-grandchildren, Kaylynn and Kristofer Burke, and Jaeden and Isaac Jaynes. Alta was born on May 10, 1923 at home in Reynoldsville, the daughter of Robert “Elmer” and Mary “Mae” White; she graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1941. She and William were married on July 19, 1942. Alta worked at Cornell University for 37 years; where she began as a sandwich maker and retired as the manager for Cornell’s Dairy Department. After she retired, she opened the SKS Craft Shop in her home. She also volunteered for many groups, including the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church. She was very devoted to her church and was a lifelong member. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
