Ann “Tula” Navestad
Age 93, of Burdett, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 in the comfort of her brother’s home. Born at home in Ozone Park, NY on March 24, 1927 to Peder and Dagny (Borgen) Navestad, she spent the next 88 years in that home before relocating to Montour Falls five years ago, to be near family.
She is survived by her brother, Per (Doris) Navestad of Burdett, niece, Wendy (Robert) Wirth, nephews, Paul Navestad, Eric (Cheryll) Navestad, and Gary (Tina) Navestad. She was a great-aunt to Amy (Anthony) Bo, and their sons Andrew and Ryan; Lori (Erich) Asperschlager, and their daughters, Juliet and Leah, and Gregory, Brian, Julie, Paige and Perry Navestad. Her very best friend of 80 plus years, Marilyn Rudy of Middle Island, NY also survives.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her long-time companion, Vincent Pacera, in 2007, and great-nephews Ethan and Elijah Navestad.
In her younger years, Tula was a talented oil painter whose paintings are still enjoyed by family and friends in the US and Norway. She was a Ms. Fix-it who could “fix” almost anything with masking tape, wire hangers, clothes pins, or duct tape. After a minor fender bender, she put the pieces back together with duct tape. The car was silver and you almost couldn’t tell it happened! She was a cat lover who provided food, water, and shelter for many of the feral cats in her Ozone Park neighborhood. Before retiring, she was a secretary for an insurance company in Garden City, NY.
In her final months, care was provided by family members, Wendy Wirth, Cheryll Navestad, Amy Bo, and Lori Asperschlager. Thanks to Shannon Slater, Schuyler Co. Office for the Aging for the education opportunities and support offered concerning the caregiving journey.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Singh and Teresa from Schuyler Hospital Primary Care for helping us manage Tula’s decline, and CareFirst for support from Jenn, Lori, Patsy, and Julie during these last two months.
Her wishes were for no services, but sometime in the future, when it is safe to do so, the family will gather for a celebration of life.
Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Schuyler Co. 124 Marina Dr. Montour Falls, NY 14865.
Offers of condolences to the family may be written in her obituary link at www.RoyceChedzoy.com. Arrangements entrusted to Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, Watkins Glen.
