Carl C. Westervelt
Age 87, of Watkins Glen, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2013. He grew up in Pine Valley, NY and was predeceased by his father George Westervelt and mother Helen (Bradley) Westervelt. He was also predeceased by his wife Joyce L. Westervelt and his brother, Robert Westervelt. As a teen he joined the Navy and served in WWII. He saw action in both the Atlantic & Pacific. During the 1950's, he was called back to active duty during the Korean conflict. After his service to our country, Carl worked at the Eclipse for a few years and eventually pursued his dream, of owning his own farm. He operated a dairy farm which eventually evolved into a feeder pig operation. He, along with his son and partner, Gary, ran the feeder pig operation until Carl retired. Carl is survived by his three children, James (Jean) Westervelt, Gary (Regina) Westervelt, and Joyce Westervelt and her husband Bruce Phetteplace; 9 grandchildren, and 17 great- grandchildren. Family would like to send a special thank you to The Falls Home, CareFirst (hospice), and his special friend Janet Kenyon for their exceptional devotion in caring for Carl; alongside with Kate Mizzoni for her around the clock love and compassion. Carl was taken care of by his special daughter-in-law, Regina Westervelt who was always by his side during his final hours. A funeral service will be held at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home in Watkins Glen, NY on November 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
