Carol J. (Wellman) Fenton
74, of Interlaken, NY passed away on Feb. 22, 2016 at home after an extended illness. Carol was born Feb. 10, 1942 to Earl B. and Edith (Knapp) Wellman. She was married to Carlton Fenton on her 20th birthday, Feb. 10, 1962. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, David; and two sisters, Mildred Ball and Sharon Wellman. She is survived by her husband of 54 years; a sister, Marilyn of Geneva; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Vaughn Selby of Lansing; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol grew up in the Reynoldsville area and graduated from Odessa Central School. She and her husband lived in Bennettsburg, NY for several years; also Killeen Texas, Ithaca, and Rochester. 20 years ago they moved to Interlaken, where they ran a Family Care Home for individuals with developmental disabilities. Carol worked in banking at First National of Ithaca, First State Bank of Texas, and eventually in Rochester, where they lived for 12 years. She also worked several years for Irv Lewis Men’s Wear in Ithaca. Carol was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Trumansburg. She loved to crochet and used to crochet many beautiful animals and Christmas and Easter decorations. She loved working in her flowers until her health made it impossible to do these things. She also loved doing genealogy. She and Carl spent many hours doing research on her family line. They also enjoyed traveling extensively in the United States. Her husband wishes to thank the wonderful and caring visiting nurses and aids who assisted Carol in her home during the last few days of her life. Due to their help, she was able to stay in the comfort of her home. Also, special thanks to our friends Bob and Jody Cornwell, Michael and Melissa Anderson and Mike Jr., and all who helped during this difficult time. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Friday, February 26th, from 12pm-2pm. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at the funeral home at 2pm; followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Odessa.
