Charles “Charlie” G. Butler, Sr.

Age 72, of Watkins Glen, NY, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008 at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center after a brief illness.

The family will receive friends at Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen on Monday, July 14, from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Watkins Glen; with The Reverend Jeffrey Tunnicliff as celebrant; burial following at Holy Cross Cemetery with military honors.

Charlie was a loving, giving and caring father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. He retired from Cargill Salt, Inc. He was a faithful communicant of St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister and sang in the church choir. Charlie served 15 years as a Boy Scout Leader with Troop #77 in Watkins Glen; and coached Little League Football and Baseball. He was a dedicated fan of the Yankees, Giants, and NASCAR. He honorably served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany, where he met his wife.

He is survived by his wife of 52 ½ years, Klara Butler; son, Charles, Jr. (wife Gail) Butler, of Watkins Glen. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diane Marburger. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Brandi (Mathew) Wildeman, of Watkins Glen; Dewayne (Theresa) Butler, of Watkins Glen; Joshua Butler, of Maryland, and Nicholas Butler, of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Ariel Wildeman, Daine Butler, and Malina Butler; also special aunt Diane Butler whom he loved very much, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
