Charlotte Ann (Myers) Callanan, a long-time resident of Watkins Glen, NY, died peacefully on August 13, 2012 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, N.Y. She was born on December 10, 1930 in Fulton, NY to Alberta (McDougall) and William Arthur Myers. She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, The Honorable John (“Jack”) Patrick Callanan, Sr. retired Schuyler County, Surrogate and Family Court Judge of Watkins Glen, NY, and their five children: Karen A. Callanan (Nahant, MA), John Patrick Callanan, Jr (Eleanor Honan) (Burdett, NY), Margaret (”Peggy”) Copley Callanan ( East Aurora ,NY), Kevin Callanan (Kathy Koerner) (Mumford, NY) and Constance (“Connie”) Shea Bennett (Mathew) (Hudsonville MI). Charlotte also had nine grandchildren; Shannon Shea Schamel (Mathew) of West Chester PA, Cornelius Daniel (Neil) Callanan of Washington DC, Courtney, Amanda, Patrick and William Callanan of Mumford, NY and Abigail, Madison and Joshua Bennett of Hudsonville MI, as well as a sister-in-law Kathleen Callanan of Buffalo, NY, several nieces and nephews and a cousin, Bill Meyers (Pam) formerly of Fulton, NY. Charlotte graduated from Buffalo State Teacher’s College, Buffalo NY and worked as a teacher in Ithaca, NY upon her graduation. For over 50 years, after moving to Watkins Glen in 1955, Charlotte was an active participant in the community, working as a tireless campaigner and supporter of her husband Jack’s three runs for elective office. She also served as President of the Schuyler County League of Woman’s Voters and a Member of the Board of Trustees of Schuyler Hospital. Charlotte also worked at the Odessa-Montour School District in Odessa, NY in administration and publicity. She also spent countless hours over the years volunteering for numerous organizations, including St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church of Watkins Glen, the Watkins Glen Public Library, The Squires Drum & Bugle Corp, The PTA, 4-H, and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was also an avid bridge player for many, many years, thoroughly enjoying her bridge playing friends and companions. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Watkins Glen. NY. A Mass celebrating her life will be held on Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Watkins Glen, NY at 10:00 am. Calling hours will be held at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 East 4th Street, Watkins Glen, NY 14891 on Thursday August 16, 2012 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
