Claraneal “Clary” Creighton
Age 93, of Hector, NY, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with daughter Phyllis and grandson Allen by her side on July 1, 2016. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Thursday (July 7th) from 5pm-7pm; a funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00pm at the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church. Clary was born in Newfield, NY, the daughter of the late Lochary Van Kirk and Amanda Rogers Van Kirk. She was employed as a Laboratory Technician of Plant Science in the Ornamental Horticulture Department at Cornell University. After taking early retirement, she continued to work as a Laboratory Technician for Phillip Morris in Richmond, Virginia. Clary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a member of the Methodist Church, a former RSVP Volunteer and former member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the V-L-H Fire Department. She passionately loved horses, flowers, fishing and her friends. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Betty Pakkala and Barbara Van Kirk. Brother Edwin “Jack” Van Kirk and his wife Anna; great niece Diane Pakkala Dibble; and former husband and friend, John Creighton. She is survived by her two daughters, Amanda Creighton of New Jersey and Phyllis Creighton Cady of Burdett; sister, Annie Ostrander of Newfield; her cherished grandson, Allen (Caitlin) Cady of Burdett; and two great-children, Bryce and Emma Cady who were the lights of her life; nieces and nephews, Sandy (Rick) Van Kirk, Richard (Georgette) Pakkala, Tom (Julie) Van Kirk, Bobby Ostrander, Ricky Ostrander; also special niece and nephew, Eddie and Linda Van Kirk; and several great nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends made along her life’s journey.Those wishing may consider a memorial donation in her memory to the V-L-H Fire Department, PO Box 46, Hector, NY 14841 or Reynoldsville United Methodist Church, 3420 Coates Road, Burdett, NY 14818.
