David T. Van Dyke
Age 76, of Watkins Glen, passed away August 8, 2024.
David was born on August 4, 1948, the son of the late Horace and Dorothy (Andrews) Van Dyke. He was preceded in death by his father in 1976 and his mother in 1994, as well as his brother Horace “Art” Van Dyke in 2020.
He is survived by his sisters, Helena Fern Van Dyke and Cora “Sue” Davis; sister-in-law Frances (Oliver) Van Dyke; two nieces; two nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. David lived most of his life at his home on Station Road, where he tended to his garden, yard, and cats.
After graduating from Watkins Glen High School in 1967, he served in the US Air Force from 1968-1972. He dedicated his career to the Watkins Glen Central School for 32 years as a cleaner and Custodian. David was a lifelong member of the Improved Order of Red Men Chequaga Tribe #201 in Watkins Glen, the oldest fraternal organization in the United States. He fully enjoyed serving the fraternal organization as a member on the local, state and national levels. After retiring from the school district, David enjoyed driving for the Office of the Aging, where he drove clients to their appointments when they could not drive themselves.
The family will receive friends at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen on Thursday (Aug. 15th) from 5-7pm. A service remembering David will be held at 7pm by members of the Improved Order of Red Men.
He will be buried with military honors on Friday (Aug 16th) at 11:00am at Pleasant View Cemetery in Reading Center.
