Maxine Spaulding Obituary

Doris Maxine “Max” Spaulding, age 88, of Hector, NY, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls, NY.  Max was born on November 16,1934 to Maxwell Lester Cole and Velma Loder Schneider in Canton, PA and spent her childhood growing up in Southport, NY.

On June 27, 1953, Maxine married Robert W. Evans from Elmira, NY.  Bob and Max had 3 children, Sharon, Scott, and Rick.  More than a decade later, Max met the love of her life, Clarence “Sheik” Spaulding.  They married on November 25, 1968, in Valois, NY.  Max, her sons, and Sheik became a family and resided in Hector, NY.

Maxine was a member of the Hector Presbyterian Church and was known for her gift of song, love of children, and zest for life!  She and Sheik welcomed many “Fresh-Air” children each summer from NY City and traveled often to Camden Yards in Baltimore to watch their Orioles play.

Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Clarence “Sheik” Spaulding; sons Robert Scott and Richard Francis Evans; sister Maxine Manning; brothers Donald, George “Joe” and Terry Cole. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Maximiek (Gino DePasquale) of Rochester. NY, daughter-in-law Lydia Wickham of Burdett, NY, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Montour Falls on Saturday April 29 at 2:00pm; Rev. Mike Kelly officiating. In lieu of flowers and in Maxine’s memory, donations may be made to the Hector Church Memorial Education Fund or to the Valois-Logan-Hector Fire Department Ambulance Fund.
