Eva S. Swisher
Age 92, of Beaver Dams, NY, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads, NY. She was predeceased by her husband Orvis C. Swisher in 2010; parents, Michael and Fannie Sopp; and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Raymond (Hisae) Swisher of Beaver Dams; daughter, Rosalie (Ronald) D’Souza of LaGrangeville, NY; sisters, Florence Waters and Dorothy (David) Matison, both of Horseheads; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins. Eva graduated from Thomas Edison High School as class Valedictorian. She was a parishioner, lay leader and vestryman at St. Johns’ Episcopal Church of Elmira Heights; and was a member and officer of the Episcopal Church Women’s group. She served as past President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer of Elmira Heights B.P.W. Eva was active in promoting equal pay for women and was skilled in many crafts, including sewing. Eva retired as a buyer for Schweizer Aircraft of Big Flats. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen on Thursday from 6-8 p.m.; Burial Office and Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Sixth & Decatur St., Watkins Glen on Friday, March 30, 2012, at 11:00am; The Rev. Michael Hartney celebrant; followed by committal services at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery, Elmira.
