DeSARNO, Frank Jr.
WATKINS GLEN: It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the death of a long time Watkins Glen resident, Frank DeSarno, Jr. He passed away at the age of 84, at Schuyler Hospital on February 9, 2015 after a 6 ½ year courageous battle with cancer. Frank honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He founded DeSarno’s Body Shop 58 years ago, which became a 3 generation shop. His son, Frank III, now owns and operates the business. Frank possessed a strong work ethic which he imparted to his family. He was a sought after dance partner and avid gardener. He was inducted into the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Driver’s Walk of Fame in 2003. He was Grand Marshal of the Italian-American Festival parade in 2009. He was a member of the Elks for 55 years. He was a man’s man. There was no pretense about Frank. He had a smile for every guy and two for every girl. Frank is survived by his beloved wife Joyce, of 48 years; son, Frank III “J.R.”, daughters, Cynthia Eichelman, Frances Gransbury, Tracy Deleon, and Robin (Jack) Bloise; grandchildren, Julie (Alex) Kelly, John Matthew, Gabrielle, and Olivia Bloise; great-grand-daughter, Aria Kelly; and sisters, Catherine McRorie, and Rachael Butler. He was predeceased by his parents Frank Sr. and Felice DeSarno; 3 brothers, Bill, Sam and Dominic, and the loss of his grandson, Frank DeSarno IV in 2013, was devastating. The family will receive visitors at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 1pm-4pm; followed by an Elks Service and Memorial Service at the funeral home at 4:00pm.
