G. Thomas Harrison
Age 76, of Watkins Glen, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, August 31, 2013. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Tuesday (Sept. 3rd) from 2-4pm and 6-8pm; followed by an Elks service at 8:00pm. A celebration of his life and memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church, 520 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen. Tom was predeceased by parents, Gerald and Alma, step-father Dominic Frank, and wife Maureen. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gerald T. Harrison, Jr. and Shelly of Richmond, VA; daughter, Mary L. Harrison of Watkins Glen; grandchildren, AJ Thomas Harrison, Seth Harrison, and Ashton Harrison; great-grandson, Jamison Paul; special uncle Earl “Bun” Fleck; sister-in-law, Janet Canfield; nieces, Joy Crane and Kristen Bacon; nephew Murray Kelly. Special thanks to niece Donna Jennings and great-niece Rhonda Kelly, along with special care takers Val Cannon and Kristy Lodge. Tom worked for Chemung Canal Trust Company in Watkins Glen, Waverly, and Elmira, NY. He retired in 1999 after 32 years as an Assistant Vice-President in Watkins Glen. He graduated from Watkins Glen Central School in 1956, where he excelled in basketball and baseball, and later continued his sports and education at SUNY Morrisville. His softball team won the NYS Championship in 1959. After he graduated he served in the US Army. Tom was a life member of the VFW Post 2674, member of American Legion Post 555, and member and Trustee of B.P.O.E Lodge 1546 of Watkins Glen. He also recently served 8 years on The Arc of Schuyler Board of Directors. Tom was a lifelong Rotary Club member, serving with clubs in Waverly, Elmira and Watkins Glen. He was honored by being named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Watkins-Montour Rotary Club, and also honored and named to the Watkins Glen High School Sports Hall of Fame.
