Raymond Gary “Ernie” Granston
Age 76, of Burdett, NY, passed away October 25, 2022.
Ernie was born on May 3, 1946 in Montour Falls, the son of Raymond and Eleanor (Davis) Granston.
Ernie graduated from Watkins Glen High School, Class of 1964. He was an outstanding athlete in basketball, football and track. He served as a class officer and class president. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the US Navy during Vietnam, serving on the USS Shangri la. After the Navy, Ernie worked and served with the New York State Police Troop E, and retired as a Zone Sergeant. After he retired, he joined the Schuyler County Sheriff’s department and served as a Sheriff Deputy for many years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Club, Mechanics Club, and the VFW Post 2674.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Granston; brother-in-law, Jeffrey (Cici) Eggersdorf; special cousins, David Eggersdorf and Donna Davis; special nephew Robert (Jen) Beattie, special friend David Bartone; and several nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, brother and sister, William and Diana, and cousin Frank Davis.
The family will receive friends at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen on Friday (Nov 4) from 1pm-4pm; followed by a funeral service at 4pm; and interment with military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery
Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Burdett Fire Department or the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Assoc.
