Herbert “Allen” Templar
Age 91, of Watkins Glen, passed away on March 12, 2016. Allen was born in Reading Center on August 26, 1924, the youngest child of Thomas and Louise Templar. After attending school in Watkins Glen, he entered the Army and honorably served as a Sherman tank operator in the 15th Mechanized Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany during WWII. Allen raised his three children and family on their farm on Templar Road. He worked as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Orange. He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Agnes Scudder and Albert Templar. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Helen; three children, Roger (Shirley E.) Templar of Florida; Shirley Templar of Milan, PA; and Jean (William) Hammond of Watkins Glen; and two grandchildren, Samantha Hammond and Marshall Hammond. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St. Watkins Glen, on Thursday, from 12pm-2pm; followed by a funeral service celebrating his life at 2:00pm. A committal service with military honors will be held immediately following funeral services at the Bradford Cemetery. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Bath VA Medical Center or Buffalo VA Medical Center. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
