H. Wallace “Wally” Burnett
Age 71, of Burdett, NY, passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 26, 2015 at Elcor, Horseheads, NY. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 12:00pm-2:00pm at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2:00pm; followed by burial at Hector Presbyterian Cemetery. Wally was born in Montour Falls on July 8, 1944 to Ralph and Hazel Fitch Burnett. Wally worked in Retail Management and Real Estate. He graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1963. He attended Mohawk Valley College and Elmira College. He was a sergeant in the US Army Reserves. Wally never lost his sense of humor and he was always looking on the bright side. He loved his family and friends. Wally spent many hours a day writing a book and had written many poems. He kept up with current events and kept in touch with many friends on his computer. Wally loved watching and photographing wildlife. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a grand-daughter. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Bill) Freeman of Painted Post; four sons, Steven (Heather) Burnett of Beaver Dams, Gregory (Leigh Ann) Burnett of Canton, MO, Brian (Amy) Burnett of Anthem, AZ, and Clay Burnett of Minneapolis, MN, and their mother, Shirley Voorhees Burnett; sisters, Barbara Brown and Nona Schimizzi, both of Burdett; grandchildren, Robert “Bobby” (Sage), Bryce and Braydon Burnett, all of Missouri, Erica Freeman of California, and Andy Freeman of Painted Post, and Hannah Burnett, USN Guam; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his dear friend, Joyce Stillman of Ithaca. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the V-L-H Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 46.
