Age 91, of Watkins Glen, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013. A graveside committal service will be held Wednesday (Oct. 2nd) at 2:00pm at Sugar Hill Cemetery in Watkins Glen. Helen graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1940 as Class Salutatorian, later attended the Elmira Business Institute and went on to raise eight children. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband; Frank J. Hammond in 1997, beloved son Jim in 2007; and sisters, Grace Gaige and Madge Gee Preston. Helen is the last of the “Carpenter Girls” of Burdett. She is survived by seven children, Ruth Maxwell, Bill (Jeannie) Hammond, Ken (Rebbi) Hammond, Nancy (Kevin) Reynolds, Joe (Penny) Hammond, Mike Hammond, and Linda Cotton; brothers-in-law Cash Preston, Bob Hammond (Shirley), 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and her devoted dog “King”.
