Howard Shumway
Age 83, of Watkins Glen, went home to be with the love of his life and soulmate of 63 years, Reetha, on October 22, 2020.
His hugs, warm smile, and amazing sense of humor will always be remembered. He always had a kind word and a funny comeback for all. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather (Papa), and great grandfather (Big Papa). Howard was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors. He was a very talented artist and woodworker. There was nothing he couldn’t fix. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed help.
Howard was a loyal member of the Burdett United Methodist Church. He served as Head Usher and Secretary for many years. He retired from Shepard Niles with over 40 years as a Technical Illustrator. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He took the Boy Scouts on many camping trips regardless of the weather.
Howard is predeceased by his soulmate/wife, Reetha; parents, Peter and Esther Shumway; brothers, Roy Shumway, Arthur Shumway, and Elwin Shumway along with his beloved grandson, Daniel Shumway II.
Howard is survived by his children, Chip (Sharon) Shumway of Horseheads, Daniel (Nancy) Shumway of Watkins Glen, and Dawn (Mark) DePue of Horseheads; Grandchildren, Kelly (Bill) Reese, Jennifer Tabor, Jackie DePue, and Megan (Robert) Smith; Great-Grandchildren, Gabby Reese, Quentin Reese, Tyler Fee, Luke Tabor, Johnathan Shumway, Aurora Smith, and Faith Smith along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will be having a private memorial service on Tuesday, October 27th, at Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home in Watkins Glen. Anyone wishing to make a donation in honor of Howard may do so to Burdett United Methodist Church.
