Janet (Sylvia) Bockes Stamp
Age 87, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in Penn Yan, NY. Mrs. Stamp was a longtime resident of Watkins Glen, NY and was the widow of Charles N. Stamp, Sr., a lifelong resident of Watkins Glen.
Friends and relatives are invited to a graveside Memorial Service on Friday, June 4 at 12:00 noon at Glenwood Cemetery in Watkins Glen.
Mrs. Stamp was born in Borodino, NY to Smith (who tragically died 3 days prior to her birth) and Pearl Lader Bockes. At a young age, Janet moved with her mother and stepfather, Arthur Brown to East Syracuse, NY where she graduated from the East Syracuse school district. She attended Potsdam College, training to become a teacher. She taught elementary school in Watkins Glen for almost 30 years. She was a regular attendee at the United Methodist Church of Watkins Glen, before it closed, and then attended the Odessa United Methodist Church. Janet was a member of the Schuyler County Historical Society, participated in the walking program at the local school and volunteered at Schuyler County Hospital for many years. She was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers' Association and the Retired Teachers Association of Schuyler County as well as a member of the Montour Moose Lodge #426 in Montour Falls, NY. She was a longtime participant in various bowling leagues in the county.
Mrs. Stamp is survived by her brother, Olin (Grace) Bockes of Savannah, GA. Additionally, survivors include her husband's children, Lorraine Stamp Sheesley of Watkins Glen, NY, Thomas (Rhonda) Stamp of San Bernardino, CA, Gayle (Thomas) Stamp Digan of Reston, VA, and Janice Stamp Anglin (Glen Fowler) of Norman, OK. She was predeceased by her husband's son, Charles N. Stamp, Jr. of Watkins Glen. Grandchildren include Tracy Lynn Bush, Stephen Sheesley, Terry Lynn Herr, Lara Garahan, Christine Turner, Jennifer Lopez, Thomas Digan, Jr. and John Digan. Also included are 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her nephews and niece, David (Holly) Bockes of Wytheville, VA, Diane (Byron) Bockes Boyd of Savannah, GA, Richard (Mary) Bockes of Woodbridge, VA and two great-nephews.
