Joan S. Ward
Age 99 years, 10 months and 19 days old, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2017. She was born in Ilion, NY on July 4, 1917, the daughter of Clarence and Jenny Sprague. She was predeceased by her parents; husband Ronald Ward in 1972, sister Edith Graves, and two brothers, Charles and Richard Sprague. Survivors include son Norman (Margaret) Ward, of Elmira, daughter Marcia Ward and husband Albert Kukol of Johnson City; 3 grandchildren, Christopher (Cara) Ward, Whitney Kukol, and Mitchell Kukol; great-grandson, Caz Ward; sister, Betty Lou Whittemore of Oneonta, NY; cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Thursday (March 25) from 4pm-6pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00am; Rev. Mark Flandreau officiating; burial will be at Hector Presbyterian Cemetery followed by a reception. She raised her family in Watkins Glen and was an active member of the community. Joan was a longtime member of the Watkins Glen United Methodist Church, volunteer for the Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary and Watkins Glen Public Library. She was also a member of the Evening Belles-Home Dem., and enjoyed playing Bridge with friends.
