John (Jack) T. Ball
Age 76, of Burdett, NY, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 18, 2023.
Jack was born in Warwick, NY, the son of the late Alfred and Lois Ball. He worked for IBM for over 30 years, followed by 10 years at GST BOCES in Horseheads. He was a member of the Montour Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Connie; daughters, Brenda (Stephen) Alteri of Big Flats; Susan Ball of Burdett; step-children, Colleen Coro of Corning; Carla Fayerweather of Horseheads; and Christopher Cordaro of Massachusetts; brother James (Marcia) Ball of Texas; sister Janice Allison of Kentucky; grandchildren, Ashley (Matthew) Cowen, and Nicholas Alteri; step-grandchildren, Sophia and Trevor Henneman, and Nolan, Nathan and Helen Fayerweather, Nicholas Cordaro; and great-grandchildren, Declan and Harrison Cowen.
Jack was an avid fisherman and loved to camp with his wife, friends, and family. He always had a beautiful garden and gave many of the vegetables away; often anonymously leaving them on porches. Many of those who knew Jack received houseplants that he started from his own.
Jack always enjoyed time spent at the family farm in Pratts Hollow, NY. He also loved going to NASCAR races with his nephew Mike each summer. For many years, Jack could be found on Thursday afternoons in Bill Martin's garage for a little R & R with friends and his beloved Budweiser.
Jack could cobble anything and make it work, no matter how seemingly broken it was. Not surprisingly, his CB handle back in the day was "Mr. Fixit". Over the years he spent many hours repairing things for friends and family. He enjoyed mindbender puzzles that were impossible for anyone to unlock. He was brilliant at these and usually solved them within an hour of starting them.
Jack was neighborly and always had his scanner on so that he was up to date on current local happenings.
His grandchildren would sometimes find Dollar Store trinkets left on their porches from Grandpa Jack. A man of few words, he showed his feelings in other ways.
