Joyce VanAmburg
Age 96, of Watkins Glen, passed away on January 26, 2022.
Joyce was born on December 22, 1925 in Waymart, Pa. to Homer and Myrtle Curtis. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles VanAmburg Jr.; sister Doris Howell and brothers Erwin and Robert Curtis.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Robert) DeDominick of Watkins Glen, her son, Curt VanAmburg and(Kelly) of Gibson, N.Y., her beloved granddaughters; Allison(J.P. Nawn) DeDominick of Ithaca, N.Y., and Whitney DeDominick of Watkins Glen.
Joyce left the family farm in Pennsylvania after graduating and went to work at the GLF (Agway) in Ithaca. It was in Ithaca where she would meet her future husband. After their move to Elmira, Joyce worked at the Elmira Chemung Canal Bank until the arrival of her daughter. The family eventually settled in Watkins Glen. During this time she worked as a bookkeeper for Central Asphalt.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elmira and attended the Watkins Glen Methodist Church.
Joyce could quilt, crochet, knit and sew just about anything. She was especially talented at making Halloween costumes for her granddaughters. An avid walker, long before it was popular, she continued to walk a few miles a day up until the age of 91. Joyce was a loving mother and grandmother who our family will greatly miss.
At Joyce’s request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
The family wishes to extend many thanks to Dean and his staff at Bampa’s House in Corning as well as Schuyler Ambulance and the Med. Surg. Staff at Schuyler Hospital.
