 Age 76, of Burdett, NY.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Elaine Baumgardner (Ely) on May 25, 2024 after a short battle with Leukemia. Marie was born in Montour Falls, NY on June 24, 1947 to Floyd and Lena (Wray) Ely.  She graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1965 and completed her secondary education at SUNY Albany, earning a Bachelors Degree in 1969. Marie spent most of her 30+ year career in Virginia, and retired from the Social Security Administration in 2003. Moving back to New York, she enjoyed working on her family farm and was very active with the church, taking great pride in her volunteer work with the Hector Food Pantry.

Marie is survived by her sons, Robert Jr. (Andrea) Baumgardner of North Ridgeville, OH, and Joel (Rachel) Baumgardner of Elmira Heights NY;  sister and brother Margaret (Norm) Ward of Horseheads, NY, David (Irina) Ely of Burdett, NY, nephews Christopher Ward and Daniel Ely, and grandchildren Nathaniel, Landon, Ellie, Molly, and Avery. She is predeceased by her husband of 43 years Robert “Joe” Baumgardner and her parents Floyd and Lena Ely.

Funeral services will be held at Hector Presbyterian Church on Friday June 7th at 4pm. The family will receive friends at the church prior to services from 3pm to 4pm.
