WHITING, Mary H.

Age 99, of Sarasota, FL and formerly of Watkins Glen, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2007. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen. A memorial service in her memory will be held at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Bonacci officiating. Born to Dominic and Clementina (Specchio) Paradiso on April 14, 1908 in Watkins, NY. Mary lived in Watkins Glen until 1953, teaching history at Watkins Glen High School from 1946-1953. She later moved to Sarasota, FL with her husband, George E. Whiting, who predeceased her in 1967. She continued to teach history at Sarasota High School until retiring in 1976. Mary was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen and St. Martha's Church in Sarasota, FL. She is survived by her sister, Marian Scaptura of Watkins Glen; three sisters-in-law, Angie Paradiso Specchio, Watkins Glen, Helen Paradiso, Bothell, WA and Mary R. Paradiso, Chicago Heights, IL; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Spena and Margaret Smith; and four brothers, H. Ratsie Paradiso, Nicholas J. Paradiso, Sr., Joseph P. Paradiso, and A. Stretch Paradiso. Memorials in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
