MaryLou LaRue
Formerly of Rock Stream, passed away on Friday Nov. 19, 2021 at the age of 88.
She was born and raised on a farm in Indiana, eventually moving to suburban St. Louis, then suburban Detroit, then to Big Flats. After marrying Cliff, they built a home in the woods of Schuyler County and developed it into a wildlife sanctuary certified by the National Wildlife Federation. She earned a BS degree in horticulture from Purdue University and worked in floral and landscape design, as well as being Field Administrative Assistant for the American Heart Association. Volunteering was a big part of her life – including the Girl Scouts, Tanglewood Nature Center, the American Red Cross, and as an EMT for Schuyler Ambulance. MaryLou loved all of nature, animals, music, sewing, crocheting, reading, motorcycling, and traveling. She and Cliff traveled most of the US and parts of Canada by camping with their motorcycle.
She leaves behind her husband Cliff LaRue, daughters Debbie (Frank) Devine of Vermont and Diane (Carl) Silliman of Montour Falls, as well as step children Gary LaRue of Horseheads, Sue (Keith) Bishop of Montour Falls, and Dawn (Carl) Butler of Pennsylvania. She also leaves several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Bethany Manor for the loving care they have given to MaryLou and Cliff, and for the caring support they are giving Cliff during his time of loss.
At MaryLou’s request there will be no calling hours or services. Memorial donations may be made in her name to your favorite animal shelter or wildlife preservation organization. Arrangements entrusted to Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home (www.RoyceChedzoy.com)
