Michael J Margreno, a cherished resident of Watkins Glen , NY , passed away on April 13, 2025 at the age of 67 after a long illness. At the time of his passing he had the love and support of his family at his side.
Born on May 22, 1957 in Montour Falls, NY Michael was the son of the late John and Jeanette (Gaylord) Margreno. He graduated from Watkins Glen High School with the class of 1975 . He worked his entire career at his family owned business, Johnnys Lanes. He was the brains behind the machines. Keeping everything running smoothly. Michael was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and business.
A devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, Michael found joy in the highs and lows of his favorite teams, often sharing game days with loved ones. His love for sports was matched only by his commitment to hard work, a trait that defined his professional life and inspired those around him.
Michael could fix just about anything. This was a passion he shared with two very special people John-Michael and Mitchell Rhodes. Spending countless hours working on dirt bikes and cars with them.
Beyond his work ethic, Michael possessed a heart of gold and a spirited nature that brought warmth and laughter to every room he entered. His “fiery spirit” a term affectionately used by those close to him captured his playful demeanor and his ability to bring joy to all those around him. Often greeting friends and family with “ What’s up slippery!?”
Michael also had a profound love for dogs, especially his beloved companion, Bouche. Their bond was unbreakable, and the joy they shared was evident to all who knew them. We take comfort in knowing that they are now reunited, walking together once again .
Family was the cornerstone of Micheal’s life. He is survived by his two children. Brandon Margreno of Watkins Glen , NY and Meeka Loiacono (Greg) of Rotterdam , NY . Brother Tony Margreno (Connie ) and sister Mary Mortimer (Mort) both of Watkins Glen , NY. Half-Brother John Colunio of Montour Falls , NY. Two grandchildren Juliana Parks and Greyson Loiacono both of Rotterdam, NY. Nephew Michael Margreno (Jasmine) and niece Stephanie Carson (Andrew) both of Watkins Glen, NY. All who will continue to honor his legacy by embodying the values he held dear. His grandchildren brought him immense joy; their laughter and love were among his greatest treasures, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A Celebration of Life or as Michael would say a “Hootenanny” will be held on May 17th at 2:00 pm at the Watkins Glen Elks Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Schuyler County Humane Society, reflecting Michael’s generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
A very special thank you to the staff at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility and Dr Saks for all of their wonderful care and compassion during Michael’s illness.
The Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home is assisting the family.
