Paul J. Tierney
Age 79, of Horseheads, NY, died and was born into eternal life on March 30, 2019. He was born in Scranton, PA on August 9, 1939, the son of Mary “Mae” Burns Tierney and James J. Tierney, Sr. He was the brother of James Jr., Karen Schamel (Michael), Helene Bell, Mary Hills, Gerard Tierney, Jeannine Hall (Ernest) and Kevin Tierney (Ruth). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a great-uncle to many.
His family left Scranton and moved to East Orange, New Jersey, where he grew up. His family moved back to Scranton, and Paul worked for Good Will Industries for many years. After his parents’ death, Paul lived with each of his sisters for three months and he loved it. After he could no longer travel alone, he lived with his sister Karen and husband Michael. After he could no longer live with them, he spent a short time at Long Term Care in Montour Falls. Then he moved to The Veteran Group Home.
Paul touched the lives of all who met him.
The Tierney family would like to acknowledge and give thanks to the following for their love and special care they gave to Paul: the staff at The Veteran Group Home where Paul lived these past years; the staff at Elcor Day Program where Paul went back each day; Schuyler Hospital-Long Term Care, Units 1,2,3; Sandra Temple, Coordinator with Medicaid Services; Dr. Shannon Schamel; Dr. Ben Saks; David Alverson, who became Pauls’ faithful companion; Patrick Schamel, PA; Jim Kellogg; all the nieces and nephews who welcomed him into their homes; and all the people Paul touched the lives of who met him and spent time with him. They always left with a smile.
A FUNERAL MASS WILL BE CELEBRATED SATURDAY (AUGUST 10TH) AT 10:00AM AT ST. MARY’S OF THE LAKE CHURCH, 905 N. DECATUR ST., WATKINS GLEN;The Reverend Steve Lape celebrant; interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, PA. Arrangements entrusted to Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, Watkins Glen.
