Age 71, of Mecklenburg, NY.

WE ARE...sad to announce that Peter Carroll Coats of Mecklenburg, NY passed away unexpectedly on December 7, 2021. Peter was an avid PENN STATE fan and 53 year football season ticket holder. He was a lifelong member of the Mecklenburg community, where he was heavily involved in the church and the Mecklenburg Volunteer Fire Company for over 50 years. Peter graduated from Trumansburg High School with the class of ‘68 and then continued his education at Penn State University and Ithaca College. After graduating college, he spent the next 37 years working for the Tompkins County Health Department before retiring in 2017. Growing up, Peter enjoyed spending days on the farm with his cousins and lifelong childhood friends. In recent years, you could find Peter at trivia on Wednesday nights, walking the dogs out back in the woods, or on his tractor. He is survived by his Irish-tempered wife of 38 years, Liz, son Shane (Holly), daughter Lauren (Cole), brother Rick (Laurie) Heimes, and grandson Hunter Coats. He is predeceased by his parents, Warren and Barbara Coats.

The family will receive friends at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. Funeral Services will be held the following day at the Mecklenburg United Methodist Church on Saturday (Feb. 12) at 10:00am; a procession to the Mecklenburg Firehouse will follow funeral services for a firefighter’s service and reception in his memory
