Pona J. (Reynolds) Towner
65, of 1230 Co. Rte. 19, Beaver Dams, NY, passed away unexpectedly August 31, 2011. She was born in Corning on July 21, 1946; daughter of Henry S. Reynolds and Esther Divens of Bath, NY. Pona was in the first graduating class of Corning-Painted Post East High School in 1964. Pona married Ray G. Towner Jr. February 20, 1965 in Campbell, NY. She was involved in Girl Scouts, Cinderella Softball and Little League Baseball, and was an active member of the Crystal Lanes Senior League “Go Getters.” She was employed at Toys-R-Us in Horseheads for 17 years.
Pona is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Ray G. Towner Jr. of Beaver Dams; children, Debra K. Hall of Beaver Dams, Julie L. (Gary) Updyke of Beaver Dams, Cheryl J. Hall of Elmira, Ray III (Susan) Towner of Beaver Dams; 7 grandchildren, Angela Marshall, Michael McFall, Ryan Hall, Rachael Hall, Maddy Updyke, Ross Hall and Ray William Towner; 2 brothers, Gary (Norma) Reynolds of Bath and Kevin (Nancy) Reynolds of Beaver Dams; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Gary) Cosgrove of Myrtle Beach, SC and Doris J. Kohler of Mooresville, NC; mother-in-law, Laura M. Towner of Beaver Dams; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Henry S. Reynolds and father-in-law, Ray G. Towner Sr.
A memorial service in memory of Pona’s life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 11:00am at Grace Lee Memorial Wesleyan Church, 2075 Chambers Rd., Beaver Dams; Pastor Matthew Pickering officiating. Pona was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and a friend to many.
