Ralph George Haesloop
95, of Montour Falls, N.Y, passed away on November 15, 2016 peacefully in his sleep. A private graveside service with Naval military honors will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, N.Y. at the convenience of the family. Ralph was born in Elmira, N.Y., March 11, 1921. He was a long-standing member of First Presbyterian Church in Watkins Glen, New York. He graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1939, and went on to earn a business degree from Carnegie Mellon University. During his school years he built a yawl he called the “Hysloop” which he sailed on Seneca Lake. He returned to Elmira after WWII Naval service in Washington, DC and went into the bottled gas and appliance retail business with his father, George. Additional ventures included an automated car wash and sale of in-ground swimming pools. He sold all the businesses and became Executive Director of the American Bonanza Society, an airplane club for Beechcraft Bonanza owners. After this, Ralph purchased land off the Coats Road in Burdett, N.Y. and developed “Eagle Ridge” which is an aircraft community of homes surrounding a runway. Ralph and wife Betty learned to fly in the late 1950’s and owned several airplanes over the years. Aviation was a passion in their lives. Ralph is survived by his wife, Betty D. Haesloop, his children, Linda H. Aker, Donna H. Snover, and J. Christian Haesloop as well as their children, grandchildren & their spouses. Ralph was predeceased by his parents, George C. Haesloop & Ruth (Bacorn) Haesloop, and aunt Margaret Haesloop-Grusin. A memorial service will celebrate his life next year in his honor. Arrangements by Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, Watkins Glen, NY.
