Reetha Shumway
Age 75, of Watkins Glen, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Tuesday (May 6th) from 6pm-8pm; followed by a memorial service celebrating her life at 8:00pm. She was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Delila Cummings; brother, Kenneth Cummings; sister, MaryAnn Sheilenburg; and grandson, Danny Shumway. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Howard Shumway; children, Chip (Sharon) Shumway of Horseheads, Dan (Nancy) Shumway of Watkins Glen, and Dawn (Mark) DePue of Horseheads; brothers and sister, Lowell (Lorrie) Cummings of Montour Falls, Edie (Frank) Rider of Montour Falls, Del (Cheryl) Cummings of Hector, and Timothy (Norma) Cummings of Watkins Glen; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Reetha was a retired Teaching Assistant at the Watkins Glen Central School. She was also a member of the Burdett United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She will be remembered for her quilts. She made quilts for Operation Kid Comfort Program at Ft. Drum, NY; and lap quilts for wounded soldiers. She was a member of the O'Susannah's Quilt Club in Watkins Glen, Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild in Wellsboro, PA, and contributed to the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child program.
