Richard Eschler
OWEGO / WATKINS GLEN: On April 1, 2021 Richard Eschler, well-loved husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 68.
Richard was born on June 21, 1952 in Ithaca, NY to Richard Earl and Mary Rose Eschler.
He is predeceased by his father, Richard Eschler; brother, William Eschler; in-laws Charles Robert III and Marion Dean; brothers-in-law, Charles Robert Dean IV and Jim Hoit. He is survived by his wife, Andrea Dean Eschler; mother, Mary Rose Eschler; his three children, Rebecca (George) Maffei, Jonathan Eschler (Alice Schavoir) and Amanda (Chad) Halliday; siblings Catherine Eschler, Stephen (Kathy) Eschler, Anne Eschler, Marita Hoit, Ellen (Ron) Pasto, Timothy (Marica) Eschler, Johnathan (Gail) Eschler, Eddie Wong; sister-in-law Holly (Ed) Hollenbeck; brother in-law James Dean; grandchildren, Dorothy, Sawyer, August, Forrest, Lulu, Reed and Meri; many nieces and nephews and their children of whom he was extremely proud; and special family members, Catherine (Joe Yarabek) Eschler, Lemon Yarabek, Sage Shadoan and Sequoia Shadoan.
Richard studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in art and design. He brought all of his skills together in his trade as a woodworker, mainly as an artful and precise cabinet maker, creating kitchens for many homes in the Owego area. At his heart, Richard was an artist. He partnered with his wife in her mosaic business, encouraged her, and continued his own craft woodworking at home, handcrafting decorative boxes and mirrors that reflected the beauty he saw in the world. Richard was always true to others and himself. He led by example as a quiet, loving, calm, thoughtful and hardworking man.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
