Richard J. Lee


Age 68, of Watkins Glen, NY and formerly of Geneva, died December 31, 2008 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.


He was born on June 12, 1940 in Geneva, NY, son of the late William and Laura Lee. He later moved to Watkins Glen and joined the US Army in 1957. He served twenty years active duty as Sgt. 1st Class in the military police in Germany, Korea, France, Vietnam and the United States and retired when he was stationed at the Seneca Army Depot. He worked as a Watkins Glen Dispatcher and later was manager at Clute Park. He also worked and volunteered for the mentally and physically challenged at the New England Village in Pembroke, Mass.


The family will receive friends at Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 from 4-7pm; a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Decatur St., Watkins Glen on Saturday at 10:00am; Rev. Paul Bonacci celebrant; burial at Holy Cross Cemetery with military honors.


He is survived by his wife Nancy Root Lee; daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Michael Cole; daughter Cherie Lee Samuels; son Christopher Lee; and son Michael Lee; grandchildren, Nichole, Cory, Tyler, Sabrina, Laura, Michael, Hunter and Hannah; stepchildren, Randy Lyon, Christine Carter, Linda Page; sisters Barbara (Ted) Specchio, Patricia Angelo, Shirley Ormsbee; brother Robert (Laura) Lee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.


He was predeceased by his first wife, Ann Marie Conley Lee; sister, Virginia Lee Rondinaro; brothers-in-law, Louie Rondinaro, Jim Angelo, Bill Ormsbee; uncle Harlow Bailey and aunt Shirley Bailey.
