Richard R. Voorhees
Age 66, of Beaver Dams, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 peacefully after a very brief illness.
He was predeceased by his father Darwin Voorhees, mother Mildred Voorhees (Pierce), and sister Barbara Caruso, sister Shirley Burnett. He is survived by his brother Kenneth (Ruth) Voorhees, sister Mary (Tom) Wade, brother K. Michael (Rebecca) Voorhees, sister Janet (William) Ray, sister Kathy and Calvin Dean, and brother Vernon Voorhees, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He grew up and lived in Bennettsburg, NY most of his life in the family home. He has received excellent care and good friendship at the Barney Family Care Home in Beaver Dams for the past 7 years.
He will be remembered as an outgoing person who wanted to share in conversation and laughter with everyone he met. He loved to share stories, play cards with friends, listen to music, take road trips with friends and family, enjoy a meal and lots of laughter. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and could be counted on to share a kind thought with those who were going through difficult times. He will be missed by his many friends at the ARC Rainbow Room in Watkins Glen. He found great joy in being able to learn Zoom to stay regularly connected during the pandemic with his family and friends in the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. His thoughtful comments and regular attendance will be missed by all. He truly believed and found comfort in the Bible’s promise at Jeremiah 29:11 that God will provide “thoughts of peace, and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope”.
A memorial service by Zoom will be held on November 13, 2021 at 2:00 pm; for more information please call (607) 594-4173. Interment will be at the Hector Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are being handled by Royce Chedzoy Funeral Home in Watkins Glen, NY.
