Rose Marie Smith
Age 91, passed peacefully Monday morning, October 14, 2024, with her daughter by her side. She is now with her beloved husband Kenneth Smith.
Rose was born April 11, 1933, to Albert and Anna Hess. Rose grew up with eight sisters and one brother in the small town of Dundee, NY where she met and fell in love with Kenneth Webster Smith and married on November 8, 1954. They would move to Montour Falls to raise their children Ken Smith, Cindy Mullaney, and Corey Smith in the small house by the Chequaga Falls. Once the children had grown, they moved up to the farm, once known as the Scott’s Farm, to raise beef cattle. Soon after Kenneth retired from Cotton-Hanlon he opened Ken’s Gun Shop, Rose soon followed opening her own antique shop right next door.
As our family grew, Rose always kept us all together. Christmas was her favorite time of the year as her family would all get together and laughter was heard throughout the house. She was an avid Mickey Mouse collector. One of her favorite pastimes was her weekly trips to Walmart where she would stop and talk to all the employees, everyone knew Rose. If you remember Witse’s Vintage trailer park along route 14, you will always remember Rose because that was her pride and joy. Rose loved her pets Daisy, Squirly and Pasquale.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband Ken; also JR and Anne Hess, Jack and Gloria Granham, Roger and Corajane Miller, Gerry and Mary Ruth Whipple, Bob and Leona Smith, Virginia Stahl, Harold and Mildred Bates, Ronnie and Barbara Smith, AC and Shirley Dobson.
Rose is survived by her brother-in-law, Joe Stahl: and her children, Kenneth Smith, Jr. of Dundee, NY, Cindy (Steve) Mullaney of Savona, NY, and Corey (Cheryl Davis) Smith of Montreal, Canada; grandchildren, Kailee Kenyon, Michael Kenyon, Kayla May, Nico Banville-Smith, Max Banville-Smith; great-grandchildren, Naria Ordway, Neven Ordway and Andrew Golden; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkin Glen on Wednesday (Oct. 23) from 5-6pm; followed by a time to share your stories and memories of Rose at 6pm. She will be interred at Hillside Cemetery in Dundee.
