February 17, 1949 — June 9, 2023

Sheila Mae (Zerbe) Whitney

74, of Asheboro, NC, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Born February 17, 1949 in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Zerbe.

Sheila was retired from Community One Bank. She was loved by everyone and had a special talent that many people reaped the benefits of. Sheila was the queen of making quilts for family and friends. There are so many memories, laughs, and shenanigans that her family and friends will miss. Sheila had the best heart and had the ability to boss anyone around, regardless of who you were. Sheila loved horses and wine. Her horse Betty will miss her so much and so will Coco, her friend Angie's horse.

She loved her husband Tom Whitney and they were married for 36 years. He was the love of her life.

Sheila and Tom never had any children, so nephew and niece Jeremy "JD" Gunderson and Terri Lynn Richer were their kids. Sheila loved her sister, Sylvia Gunderson and her significant other Wayne Hanion; brother, Rudy; sister in-laws, Pamela Zerbe, and Lucy Holton and her husband Donald; aunt, Pat Zerbe; as well as many nieces and nephews. She had a lot of best friends both near and far, including, Mary Olmstead and Angela (Angie) Tibbens. She has the best neighbors and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
