Wilbur Shone
Rock Stream, NY, 83, died peacefully at home in Rock Stream, NY, on February 14, 2022 at age 83 years.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Gail, son Michael (Elizabeth) and daughter Amy Stappenbeck (Eric). Another son, David, passed away on October 28, 2021, in New York City from brain cancer. Wilbur, also known as Bill or Bumpy, is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Ashley Stappenbeck, Wade, Winslow, Wyatt and Gavin Shone as well as Megan and Ian Cooper.
He and his family lived in Fairport and then Honeoye Falls for many years before retiring to Rock Stream. He received degrees in Economics and Education from Hobart College in 1961. He worked at Bausch and Lomb for nearly seventy years, then ran a fishing charter boat business on Lake Ontario for many years and later became highway superintendent in Mendon for seven years. He also was on the planning board in Mendon for fifteen years and served as chairman twice. In his younger yeas he enjoyed hunting and fishing but in later years loved the country life, especially mowing the lawn and doing projects in his woodworking shop.
He requested that there be no services and his ashes be scattered at a later time. A gathering to celebrate Wilbur and David’s life will be held from 2-6 pm on Friday, December 30th at 56 Stoneybrook Dr., Rochester, New York. Please bring some fond memories of Wilbur and David to share with friends and family.
