Stephen Edward Gillette
Age 81 of Watkins Glen, passed away on January 31, 2023.
Stephen was a father, husband, friend and an all-around good person.
Stephen was a graduate of Watkins Glen High School in 1959, attended Corning Community College, and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.
Stephen began his career working for the Glen National Bank. Stephen then managed and purchased Glen Auto Parts. Doris Pike, a longtime friend, was an integral part of the Glen Auto Parts business. Stephen purchased and later sold a number of Napa Auto Parts stores in the area. He retired in 2007.
Stephen enjoyed Seneca Lodge and his involvement there was one of his greatest pleasures. Friendships made there were so important to him.
Stephen was a member of the Watkins Glen Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Watkins Glen Elks Club.
Steve had a passion for tennis, bow hunting, skiing, and golf, and for over 50 years attended races, including Nascar, at Watkins Glen International Racetrack.
Stephen worked hard for his community by donating and volunteering his time, and was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce.
Steve was on the board of directors for Finger Lakes Fire Insurance Company, the Watkins Glen Housing Authority, and Schuyler County United Way.
Kathy and Steve loved traveling including trips to Alaska, Hawaii, England, and the Caribbean. In retirement, they enjoyed seeing the wonders of New York State. They also spent many, wonderful family vacations in Islamorada and Key West Steve and Kathy spent several winters in Key West, Florida.
Stephen enjoyed being with family and neighbors at the cabin on Seneca Lake and being part of the 15 Club Road owners.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Irene and Fred Gillette of Watkins Glen. Stephen is survived by his wife, Kathy, sons, Brian (Monica Lovejoy) and Adam, and brother Paul.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. No flowers or other memorials, please. You may leave a message of condolence to the family, on the online obituary at www.RoyceChedzoy.com. Arrangements are through Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, Watkins Glen.
