Tony DeBerardinis
ATHENS, OHIO- Anthony L. “Tony” DeBerardinis, age 93 of Athens, formerly of Montour Falls, NY, died Saturday morning, July 29, 2017 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains, OH. Born Dec. 18, 1923 in Waterbury, CT, he was the son of the late Lucio & Rose DeBerardinis.
He was a graduate of Brooklyn (NY) High School, where he was a city bus driver. He retired from the State of New York as a Motor Vehicle Inspector and Driver’s License Examiner in Watkins Glen, NY. He attended the Elderhostel and ROAD Scholar program in Athens at Ohio University. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II serving in the 3505th AAF Base Unit.
Tony is survived by his wife of 23 years, Connie Pikaart DeBerardinis; his children, Joan (Merwin) Brown of Lodi, NJ, Robert (Susan) DeBerardinis of Athens, AL, Anthony D. DeBerardinis of Utica, NY, William E. Pikaart of Columbus, OH, Lori (Dan) Brooks of Athens, OH, Cindy (Vern) Castle of Guysville, OH; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Carmela (Eddie) Natale of Franklin Square, NY.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Rose DeBerardinis; two daughters, Rosemarie Rushford and Linda Omilin; two sons, Louis DeBerardinis and Leonard F. Pikaart; and a sister, Clara Bartolomeo.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, August 11, from 5-7 p.m. at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, 905 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen, with Father Steve Lape as celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Watkins Glen, NY.
