Violet Lorraine (Usher) VanWormer
Age 95, formerly of Reynoldsville, NY, passed away December 28, 2024.
She was born on June 29, 1929 to Winifred (Smith) and Orin K. Usher.
She married on July 29, 1950 to Norvelle (Bud) VanWormer and began their family. The two were married just shy of seventy years. Violet and Bud had 6 sons and one daughter together, (Larry, Ronald, David, Glen, Clinton, Dale, and Nancy).
She is survived by sons Larry, and Clinton (Laurie), and daughter Nancy (Bill); 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Violet was preceded in death by her husband Bud, sons Ronald, David, Glen and Dale, daughter-in-law Cheryl, grandson Larry Jr, and great-granddaughter Lily.
Violet was a dedicated and loving wife, responsible mother and genuinely kind person. She loved her God and spoke of him often, never meaning to speak a foul word or ill will toward anyone as trying as it might have been.
Violet often wrote letters of encouragement to ones who were going through difficulty and hardship, even when her own circumstances might have been bleak. Her ability to cook a meal would impress anyone. Her flower gardens were the envy of many, and she could get tomatoes to grow in a gravel pit.
Her photo albums would fill a library and are a tribute to a full life along with candid moments we wish she didn’t catch.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2590 State Route 414, Watkins Glen, NY on Saturday (January 18th) at 12:00pm.
