C. William Harrington 92, of Odessa, NY, went to be with the Lord, May 30, 2011. He was born July 7, 1918 to Joseph “Bert” Harrington and Suzanne Merrick Harrington. Bill was a longtime resident of the Montour Falls and Odessa area.
There are no prior calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, 221 W. South St., Montour Falls; Rev. George J. Norton Jr. officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Montour Cemetery.
He served in WWII from 1944 to 1946, Company C, 4th Battalion, Army services forces Training Center, Fort Belvoir, Virginia as a cook with the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was awarded a Good Conduct medal, American Theater ribbon and WWII Victory ribbon.
Bill was well known as a General Contractor in the area for 40 years, first as a partner to his father in “Bert Harrington and Son” through the 1950’s; later they incorporated the business to “Falls Builders and Supply Co.” that operated through the 60’s; and as “Bill Harrington and Son’s” through the late 70’s. There are many fine homes in the area as a testament to his fine workmanship.
Bill was active in the Montour Falls Baptist Church for many years. He was very active in the community in earlier years and ran for the School Board seat in the Odessa School District in the 1950’s.
More recently his favorite job was serving as the Harrington Family Patriarch as loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was predeceased by his first wife Geraldine Percy, second wife Lillian June Ward, sons Jerry and Patrick Harrington; sons-in-law George White and Edwin White; parents Burt and Susanne Harrington, and 9 brothers and sisters.
Bill is survived by his children; Rev. Judy D. White (Bill White and Maryanne Miller), Greg Harrington and Kim Taft (Jerry’s children), Phillip and Melissa (Corey) Harrington, Mike and Christopher Harrington (Pat’s children), Sherie and Dan (Lisa and Tara) Bradley, Hollie and Julie Harrington-Tenney (Noah and Kaitie), Danny and Cynthia (Caleb, Tristan, Gabriel) Harrington, David and Robin (Elora and Shannon) Harrington; and several other great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial donations in his memory may be made to The First Baptist Church, 221 West South St. Montour Falls, NY 14865.
