Age 82, of Odessa, NY, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on October 29, 2013. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 6pm-8pm. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Zane was born April 25, 1931 in Moundsville, West Virginia, the youngest of 5 children, to Henry and Goldie Unterzuber. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra; three children, Gregory Reynolds (Barbara) of Newark Valley, NY, Michael Reynolds (Paola) of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, and Douglas (Lisa) Reynolds of Chandler, AZ; five grandchildren, Jerramie (Sarah), Erica, Samantha, Jason, and Molly; great-grandson, Jace; brother, Gene (Polly) Unterzuber of North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Unterzuber of Virginia, Jody (Charlie) DeVay of Odessa, Carol Skinner of Montour Falls; brother-in-law, Richard (Fran) Skinner of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by infant son, Eric Travis Unterzuber, parents, brothers Ralph and Ernest Unterzuber, and sister Carol Rex. Zane graduated from Moundsville High School, West Virginia in 1949, where he was an All-State Football player. He continued to play football and study at Cornell University. He returned to West Virginia where he worked on the family farm and later for Allied Chemical Company. He was a volunteer fire fighter and instructor. He was also active in the Moundsville United Methodist Church. He moved to Schuyler County in 1970 and worked for Watkins Salt/Cargill. He retired from Cargill in 1992 after 22 years. Zane was an avid bowler and golfer, and served as president of the Watkins Glen Golf Course for numerous years. He also served on the Schuyler County United Way Board, and was a member of the BPOE #1546 Elks Lodge of Watkins Glen and Moose Lodge #426 of Montour Falls. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Care First (Hospice), 11751 E. Corning, NY 14830; Hospicare of Tompkins County, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850 or the Washington Lands United Methodist Church, 242 Frontage Dr., Moundsville, WV, 26041.
